“I didn’t know much about [Broward House], so when I came and interviewed with someone, things went really good and they took me in and they helped me remedy my drug situation,” said O’Brien.
After being assessed by Dr. Jana Jaffe, O’Brien was placed with his first case manager, Tom, who helped him get set up at Broward House’s Assisted Living Facility, through the Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program.
Though he was able to graduate from his program, he couldn’t stay sober long after.
It wasn’t until he returned in 2022, that O’Brien knew that this was his final chance to get the necessary care for his sobriety.

Currently assigned to case manager Harold Balvin Vasquez, O’Brien has seen improvement in his life.
“He knows who to call or who to speak to, or who to go to when you need assistance with situations,” said O’Brien.”
With Balvin Vasquez as his case manager, O’Brien was paired with one of our behavioral health counselors, Maliha Valliani.
Through being connected with Valliani, she was able to connect him with our housing case manager, Bill Maciolek.
“[Balvin Vasquez and Valliani] are very reliable, friendly and I feel comfortable asking them questions or asking for guidance,” said O’Brien
Now, 2 years sober, O’Brien is focused on becoming more financially settled and regaining more confidence and independence that he once lost during his drug use.
“It’s been a slow journey regaining my life and getting back into a normal routine, so they’ve been very helpful with pointing me in that direction.”
